Búzios (Nov '11)

Wonder where all the Cariocas go for the long weekends? the chances are they are in Búzios... Famous for 17 beautiful beaches, and villages with cobbled streets packed with boutiques, restuaurantes, bars and pousadas.

It's where all the cool people hang out away from Rio...

'Discovered' by Bridget Bardot in 1964, it developed from a pensiular of quiet isolated fishing villages into one of the countries' most stylish low-key resorts (Bridget still returns occasionally to greet visitors) ...

Búzios is best explored on a boat trip or by jeep. We preferred taking to the water to appreciate the many beaches...

literally...

Captain Rory took the helm, an idea not appreciated by all passengers...

but driving is tiring work, especially after plenty of swimming...

On the North of the peninsular João Fernandes is a pretty (but busy) beach to relax in the calm water.

Another day, another beach, this time Praia de Geribá. A fantastic surfing beach on the South of the peninsular, perfect for messing about and chilling out before the 2-3 hour trip back to Rio...

Easy to see why the Cariocas can't stay away...
