Sugar Loaf Mountain (Dec 2010)

Guarding the entrance to Guanabara Bay, the granite and quartz Sugar Loaf rises 1,300ft above the waters of the Atlantic Ocean . The Sugar Loaf experience takes two mountain, Morro do Urca (705ft)and Pao de Acucar.

With scenes like this beautiful sunrise on Pao de Acucar, taken from our apartment, it wasn´t going to be long before we took a closer look.

For the James Bond fans out there, it was these cable cars and Sugar Loaf that featured in main action sequence in ´Moonraker´ with Roger Moore in 1979.

Hide and seek... thank goodness they don´t use these first used cable cars for anything else anymore! (yellow and green friend is Jasmine´s class mascot)

From the first submit Morro do Urca, the views were stunning - the small town of Urca and across the waters to Niteroi,

beautiful Botafogo Bay and marina,

and of course the proud Pao de Acucar.

The ascend up to Pao de Acucar provided further amazing views of the city of Rio de Janeiro - Copacabana,

and Cristo Redentor,

A great place to sit back with a cold beer and enjoy..
...this most incredible city.

Are you tempted...? xxxx
